Join an Ut Fidem goup!

Students are personally invited to join an Ut Fidem small group. Small groups consist of 5-6 students of the same gender and same grade, as well as a trained Ut Fidem mentor. Small groups meet for an hour each week at their own chosen time and Virtus-approved location. Ut Fidem small groups help students and mentors grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Small groups will share life together, participate in Catholic faith study, and engage in weekly “commits” where they take their faith outside of the group and into their daily life.

“In Ut Fidem, my mentor challenged our group to picture Jesus. As I have started to picture Jesus everywhere in my life, I have come to realize that no matter where I go He is always by my side. This simple challenge from my mentor has also made my daily prayer life more impactful. I’m not mindlessly going through the motions of prayer anymore. Instead, I am having a real and honest conversation with Jesus. I see Him sitting next to me as I journal and sitting across from me as we have conversations. This has led to me having a deeper relationship with Jesus and seeing that He is a constant in my life.”

Liv Chapman, Class of 23'

"Because of Ut Fidem I learned the importance of community. Surrounding yourself with people your age who have chosen to actively seek out God makes it easier for you to grow deeper with Him yourself. I knew going in to college that I would need to find that group on another campus. My Ut Fidem leader also had us come up with concrete plans for us to keep our faith as a priority in college so we wouldn’t get here and get lost or fall away. That really helped as well, knowing that I had a plan already put together to prioritize my faith.”

Vinny Carson, Class of 22'

"In the past, I viewed prayer as an obligation. I tried to sound my best while talking to God by perfecting every word in my head until I sounded like the back of a prayer card. This never felt like it got me anywhere spiritually; I saw it as a task to cross off a list in order to become a better Catholic. At Ut Fidem I have learned to talk to Jesus the same way I would talk to my best friend. My mentor stressed the importance of being honest in prayer because doing so allows Jesus to work through you. I started to understand that when you pray without holding back it removes the mask that separates you from Jesus. I have come to know that like any great friend, Jesus wants you to share your life with him. He wants to spend time with the real you. Thinking of Jesus as a friend has allowed me to truly enjoy having a relationship with Him."

Eva Lynner, Class of 22'

“To me, living without faith is like living without water. I don’t remember a day where I haven’t prayed to the Lord. I feel as though He has done so much for me in my life that it would be impossible for me not to praise Him.”

Josh Stanfel, Class of 21'

“Ut Fidem provided me with an excellent mentor and group of friends, but also a strong foundation in my faith. In a life that will always be full of new changes, it is extremely helpful to have a backbone in your faith. On countless occasions I have used my faith and community of friends to help myself through hard times, educate others, and learn from my peers. Ut Fidem taught me that faith is something to be proud of and that it’s crucial to ask questions about the faith, so that we can learn. Ultimately, Ut Fidem sparked my relationship with the Lord and ignited my passion for Him, but also pushed me to learn more about the Lord through prayer and Scripture.”

Will Melcher, Class of 20'
